Israeli troops seized a drone loaded with captagon and hashish early this morning as it attempted to smuggle the drugs into the Gaza Strip, according to the Israel Defense Forces. The aircraft was intercepted while trying to cross from Israeli territory into Gaza and was brought down over Israeli soil near Kibbutz Nahal Oz. Soldiers recovered the drone and its payload, which authorities identified as containing the stimulant known as captagon along with hashish. The incident forms part of a broader pattern of aerial smuggling attempts that have increased in recent years along the Gaza border. Military officials noted that the drone was a heavy-duty commercial model capable of carrying substantial loads, making it suitable for transporting large quantities of contraband. Forces continue examining the full contents while working to identify those responsible for launching the flight.

This latest interception highlights the ongoing challenge of preventing drone-based smuggling routes into Gaza, where drugs have been used both for profit and to support militant networks. Captagon, sometimes called the “courage drug,” has previously appeared in seizures linked to terrorist groups operating in the region, while hashish remains a common commodity in cross-border trafficking. The IDF has reported multiple similar attempts in which suspects on the Israeli side load drones and send them across the border under cover of darkness. Troops remain on high alert to detect and neutralize these low-flying threats before they can complete their journeys. Officials emphasize that each successful seizure disrupts supply lines and denies resources to those seeking to exploit the security situation. The military stated that investigations into the operators of this particular drone are continuing.
