Gaza — Former Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Jonathan Conricus, now a senior fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies (FDD), raised serious questions about Hamas’ repeated violations of a presidential ceasefire and peace agreement. Speaking from the Gaza border, Conricus said, “I can't really explain why Hamas is being allowed to violate a presidential ceasefire and peace deal without facing any consequences.”

The comments highlight ongoing frustration among Israeli defense officials and policymakers over the lack of tangible enforcement measures against Hamas, which continues to carry out attacks despite formal agreements aimed at reducing hostilities. Conricus stressed that the repeated breaches undermine both regional stability and the credibility of international mediators attempting to uphold peace.

Analysts note that Hamas’ ability to operate with relative impunity has long been a strategic challenge for Israel. Efforts to curb aggression are complicated by political considerations, humanitarian constraints, and international pressure to avoid escalation. However, Conricus emphasized that failure to respond decisively risks emboldening terrorist organizations and weakening deterrence in the region.

The Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, where Conricus serves as a senior fellow, has repeatedly warned that inadequate consequences for militant activity could destabilize the broader Middle East and erode the effectiveness of ceasefire agreements. Conricus’ remarks underscore a growing call for clearer accountability measures and stronger enforcement mechanisms to prevent further violations.

With tensions remaining high along the Gaza border, experts say that the international community faces a critical test: either enforce meaningful consequences for ceasefire violations or continue to allow hostile groups like Hamas to operate unchecked, threatening both Israeli security and broader regional peace.
