A car plunged into a sinkhole that suddenly opened on Tanjong Katong Road South, Singapore, near a PUB (Public Utilities Board) worksite. The dramatic incident occurred on Monday, startling nearby workers and motorists.
Quick-thinking construction workers on site rushed to the scene and successfully rescued the trapped driver from the partially submerged vehicle. The driver was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.
Officials confirmed the sinkhole emerged near ongoing underground infrastructure works. Road access was immediately closed as emergency services and repair crews began site stabilization and damage assessments.
PUB has launched an investigation to determine whether the sinkhole was directly caused by the nearby construction activity. Road repair and safety checks are expected to continue into the week.
