Israeli journalist and analyst Haviv Rettig Gur says Gaza will never achieve true freedom while under Hamas’s control, describing the group as “undeterrable” and unwilling to yield regardless of the hardships faced by Gazans.
Speaking with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies’ Jonathan Schanzer, Gur argued that Hamas’s unshakable stance makes it impossible for them to govern responsibly or pursue peace.
“The very fact that nothing that happens to Gazans will ever make Hamas buckle means they’re undeterrable, which means they can never be allowed to take over anything else,” Gur explained. “And Gaza can never really be free as long as Hamas is there.”
The discussion touched on Israel’s broader strategic challenges in Gaza, the devastating human toll of the ongoing conflict, and the belief that meaningful peace will only be possible if Hamas is removed from power.
