MANHATTAN, N.Y. — A fire inside a 35-story apartment building in Manhattan claimed one life Monday evening, officials confirmed.

Firefighters were called to the scene after flames broke out on the 19th floor of the building. Crews worked quickly to contain the blaze, which was brought under control at approximately 8:06 p.m.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The New York Fire Department reported no additional fatalities, though several residents were evaluated for smoke inhalation.
