Elon Musk has filed a lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI, accusing the tech giants of conspiring to stifle competition in the artificial intelligence market.
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. federal court in Texas, alleges that Apple and OpenAI engaged in market manipulation by locking in exclusive deals that give them control over key AI platforms. Musk argues that the partnership prevents fair competition for his companies, X and xAI.
“Apple and OpenAI have locked up markets to maintain their monopolies and prevent innovators like X and xAI from competing,” the complaint states. It further claims that Apple’s integration of ChatGPT into its iPhones, iPads, and Macs is part of the strategy to sideline rivals.
Musk’s AI venture, xAI, says it is seeking billions of dollars in damages as part of the case.
The legal challenge comes as Apple moves to embed OpenAI’s ChatGPT directly into its operating system, marking one of the most significant steps yet in making AI tools mainstream for consumers.
The case could have far-reaching implications for the future of AI competition, with regulators already scrutinizing the growing influence of a handful of powerful tech companies.
