SYDNEY — Qantas is preparing to make aviation history with the launch of the world’s longest commercial flight — a 22-hour nonstop journey connecting Sydney directly to London and New York. The airline’s new ultra-long-range Airbus A350-1000ULR, now under assembly in France, represents a bold leap forward in global air travel, promising to shrink the world like never before.

The new aircraft, capable of flying more than 10,000 miles without refueling, will carry 238 passengers and feature several innovations designed for comfort and endurance. Among its highlights are a dedicated “Wellbeing Zone” — a space where travelers can stretch, move, and stay active during the record-setting journey — and an all-new Economy Plus class, bridging the gap between standard economy and premium seating.

Qantas plans to take delivery of the first of 12 A350-1000ULR jets in late 2026, with the inaugural flights expected to begin in 2027. The project, part of the airline’s long-anticipated **Project Sunrise** initiative, aims to redefine long-haul travel by eliminating stopovers on some of the world’s busiest routes.

CEO Alan Joyce described the venture as “the final frontier of aviation,” saying the new aircraft will not only enhance passenger comfort but also improve efficiency through advanced fuel-saving technology. The A350-1000ULR features next-generation Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, increased fuel capacity, and a cutting-edge cabin pressurization system designed to reduce jet lag.

Industry analysts believe the Qantas launch could reshape the competitive landscape of global aviation, setting a new standard for luxury, endurance, and convenience. Once operational, the Sydney–London route will become the longest continuous commercial flight in history — a true milestone in modern air travel.
