Authorities announced the 100th enforcement action targeting toll evaders using ghost plates, marking a major milestone in the ongoing crackdown on illegal license plate schemes.
According to officials, more than 5,300 vehicles have been seized over the past 17 months, and at least 1,300 arrests have been made as part of the joint task force operation.
Ghost plates — often fake, altered, or obscured license plates — are commonly used by drivers to avoid paying tolls, skirt traffic cameras, or conceal criminal activity. Officials say the widespread abuse has cost cities and states millions in lost revenue while undermining road safety.
Task force leaders emphasized that enforcement will continue, warning drivers that attempting to cheat the system could result in seizure, arrest, and heavy fines.
“This is about fairness and safety,” one official noted. “Law-abiding drivers should not carry the burden for those who deliberately evade the rules.”
