Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly rejected the prospect of a Palestinian state following the UK, Australia, and Canada’s decision to formally recognize Palestinian statehood on Sunday.
Speaking in response, Netanyahu accused foreign leaders of handing Hamas a political “prize” through their recognition. He dismissed any possibility of a sovereign Palestinian state emerging in the region.
“It will not happen. A Palestinian state will not be established west of the Jordan River,” Netanyahu declared, emphasizing his government’s longstanding position on the matter.
The coordinated recognition by the three countries was framed as a step toward advancing peace and justice for Palestinians, but Israel has criticized the move as undermining security and rewarding violence.
Netanyahu’s remarks highlight the deep divide between Israel and several of its Western allies, setting the stage for heightened diplomatic tensions. Analysts warn that the development may complicate both peace negotiations and international efforts to stabilize the region.
