A Naples, Florida family received an unexpected and unsettling surprise in the early hours of December 30 after discovering a massive alligator calmly swimming in their backyard pool.
The family contacted authorities after spotting the reptile taking a midnight dip, prompting a swift response from Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission trappers. Nighttime video footage shows wildlife professionals carefully surrounding the pool and using specialized poles and mouth tape to safely restrain and remove the alligator.
Officials confirmed that the extraction was carried out without incident and that no injuries were reported to either the homeowners or the animal. Once secured, the alligator was relocated in accordance with state wildlife protocols.
Florida wildlife experts routinely warn residents that alligator encounters tend to increase during cooler months, when the animals seek warmth and easy access to water sources. Swimming pools, retention ponds, and canals can all attract alligators, particularly during nighttime hours.
Authorities continue to remind Florida residents to remain alert, keep a safe distance from wildlife, and contact professionals rather than attempting to handle dangerous animals themselves. The Naples incident serves as another reminder of the realities of living alongside Florida’s native wildlife, where unexpected encounters can happen even in one’s own backyard.
