NEW JERSEY — A group of eight teenagers and two sailing instructors were dramatically rescued from rough waters off the New Jersey coast after their sailboat crashed and began sinking, officials said.
The incident unfolded when the boat’s engine failed, leaving the group stranded and vulnerable to strong waves. Video footage captured the tense moments as rescuers jumped into action, pulling each person to safety in a coordinated effort that has since been hailed as heroic.
According to local authorities, the boat began taking on water quickly after colliding with rocks. Emergency responders, including the Coast Guard and local marine units, rushed to the scene.
“If it weren’t for the fast response and teamwork, this could’ve ended very differently,” said one rescue official.
Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported. All 10 individuals were evaluated by paramedics at the scene and released to their families shortly after.
The cause of the engine failure is still under investigation.
