OHIO — Three police officers were injured in what authorities are calling an “ambush situation” after a gunman opened fire in a shocking midday attack on Wednesday.

According to police, two officers were sitting in their patrol vehicles eating lunch when they were suddenly targeted by a gunman, who began firing without warning. Both officers were struck and injured during the initial attack.

A third officer, who responded to the scene, was also injured during the exchange of gunfire.

“This was a deliberate and violent ambush on law enforcement,” said a spokesperson for the police department. “We are thankful that all three officers are expected to recover.”

The suspect was taken into custody after a brief standoff. Authorities have not yet released a motive, but the incident is under active investigation.

The officers are currently being treated for their injuries at a local hospital. Their names have not been released at this time.
