Los Angeles authorities have released video showing a suspect firing at a police helicopter during a four-hour standoff in Manchester Square in November 2025. The footage depicts suspect Anthony Whitsey, 57, discharging 3 to 5 rounds at an LAPD helicopter while officers attempted to contain the situation.
The confrontation began when officers responded to an assault call. Whitsey fired at the helicopter before retreating indoors, dropping his 9mm handgun, and emerging later to confront SWAT personnel. No officers or the aircraft were struck during the incident.
The standoff concluded when an LAPD K-9 intervened, biting Whitsey on the arms, shoulders, and legs, forcing him to surrender. He was hospitalized for K-9 bite injuries before being booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
NBC News’ reporting highlights the escalating danger faced by law enforcement during prolonged standoffs, noting the combination of armed resistance and tactical challenges when suspects target aerial units.
