SpaceX’s Starship — the world’s most powerful rocket — has finally cleared a major milestone, completing its 10th test flight in what CEO Elon Musk hailed as the program’s most successful launch yet.
The 400-foot-tall rocket blasted off from SpaceX’s Starbase facility in Texas at 7:30 p.m. EST on Tuesday, following two aborted attempts earlier in the week caused by poor weather and technical issues.
Unlike several past tests that ended in mid-air explosions, Starship soared smoothly into orbit before making a controlled splashdown in the Indian Ocean. While the spacecraft’s rear flaps sustained burn damage during reentry, the vehicle remained mostly intact — a crucial step toward proving its reusability.
The success marks a turning point for SpaceX’s flagship project, which Musk envisions as the backbone of future missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
