Israel has announced that eligible intercity bus routes and Israel Railways services will operate free of charge for the public on Election Day, Tuesday, October 27, as part of arrangements to make travel to polling locations more accessible.
The free transportation service is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. on Monday, October 26, and continue through the end of service on Tuesday.
According to the Central Elections Committee and the Transportation Ministry, the arrangement will apply to designated intercity bus routes longer than 15 kilometers, as well as eligible Israel Railways services.
Passengers traveling on participating bus routes will not be required to present identification or obtain a ticket to use the free service.
Train passengers, however, will need to obtain a designated free travel ticket from station service counters or ticket machines before boarding.
The transportation arrangements are intended to assist residents traveling between cities on Election Day, including those who need to reach their registered polling locations outside their current area.
Travelers are advised to check participating routes and railway schedules before departing, as the free-travel arrangement does not necessarily apply to every public transportation service.
