Israeli police launched a manhunt Sunday morning after a suspect stole a handgun from a security guard outside Kanfei Ruach School in Givat Shmuel, near Bnei Brak. CCTV footage shows the suspect arriving on a scooter, briefly speaking with the guard, and appearing to fake a fall. When the guard stepped forward to help, the suspect grabbed the handgun from his holster. The whole thing happened around 7:30 a.m. on October 25, 2026, in just a few seconds. The guard appears to offer little resistance, and no injuries were reported.
The suspect then took off on an electric scooter, leaving police with an urgent search for both the man and the stolen weapon. Officers from the Mesubim station responded with extensive searches in the area, and the case is being treated as a developing criminal event. Police believe the incident was criminally motivated and say the investigation is continuing. Many questions are still open, including who the suspect is, why a school guard was targeted and where the gun is now. Israeli media have previously reported that stolen handguns can be worth a lot on the illegal market, which adds to the worry about this one.
